At Tellus we demonstrate environmental responsibility by minimising the environmental impact of our operations.

Tellus has successfully demonstrated environmental responsibility during its drilling and pilot operations.

Tellus is currently in the predevelopment stage and is actively evaluating through feasibility studies and environmental impact assessment reports how it can contribute to lasting environmental benefits.

Where environmental impacts are understood, we will adopt a rigorous adaptive management approach to ensure we constantly monitor our activities and change anything that is causing significant harm to the environment.

Where there is uncertainty about potential impacts, we will adopt a precautionary approach, taking extra care to research, monitor and plan our activities.

In particular, we respect the cultural and spiritual connections of Aboriginal people to their country. We will avoid disturbance to any sacred or special areas and engage local people to work on land management, surveys, monitoring and rehabilitation of their country.

Tellus is committed to operating sustainably and is actively studying the programs listed below (during our feasibility studies and regulatory approvals stage) for possible inclusion into our projects:
  • Tellus supports releasing valuable materials back into the circular economy or storing them safely until they can.
  • By storing "like with like" Tellus creates the opportunities where if we cannot find commercially viable resource recovery opportunities today with our current technology toolbox, we can store the materials safely and then pass them safely to the next generation that may have a better technology toolbox to recover them.
  • Utilising hybrid power generation, including
    • Rooftop solar generation at all facilities
    • Two megawatt solar farm at the Chandler Facility
      • Tellus has commenced work with Federal Government and Northern Territory based renewable energy experts to identify if we can increase the solar farm size
  • Planning for energy efficiency, including
    • Energy efficient buildings, including solar
    • Energy efficient equipment, including electric vehicles
    • Low embodied energy materials
  • Benchmarking operations against industry recognised Sustainability Guidelines

Tellus is committed to working on abating our own greenhouse gas emissions footprint and those of our customers and is actively studying the programs listed below (during our feasibility studies and regulatory approvals stage) for possible inclusion into our projects:
  • Implementing a greenhouse gas reduction programme for our own operations
  • Sequestering greenhouse gas emissions that would otherwise escape landfill
  • Seeking certification to issue greenhouse gas abatement (GHG) certificates
  • Tellus has applied to the Office of the Clean Energy Regulator for registration of the Chandler project and has commenced working with greenhouse gas experts to get a registered methodology

Tellus is committed to resource recovery and recycling and is actively studying the programs listed below (during our feasibility studies and regulatory approvals stage) for possible inclusion into our projects:
  • Isolating other wastes until a viable option for recovery and recycling exists
  • Developing a technology park at Sandy Ridge and Chandler where innovative technologies can be applied, research and development encouraged with expert companies, research facilities and universities partnerships with the objective of recovering commercial viable valuable materials
  • Contributing to the circular economy by encouraging opportunities for recovery and recycling
  • Create the opportunity where we can pass valuable materials safely to the next generation that may have a better technology toolbox to recover them..

Tellus is committed to demonstrating our environmental stewardship with land owners, traditional owners, broader community and the regulators and is actively studying the programs listed below (during our feasibility studies and regulatory approvals stage) for possible inclusion into our projects:
  • Implementation of comprehensive environmental management plans, including
    • Cultural heritage management plan
    • Biodiversity management plan
    • Surface water management plan
    • Groundwater management plan
      • Using hypersaline water not suitable for other users for Tellus industrial applications
  • Investigating potential for establishment of local environmental reserves
  • Establishing programs for reintroduction of fauna, including:
    • Bilby
    • Burrowing Bettongs
    • Moles and mulgara species
    • Rufous Hare-Wallaby (Mala)
    • Slater Skink
