Please find links to the following reports associated with the submission of the Sandy Ridge ESD and PER: Environmental Impact Assessment

In 2015, Tellus lodged a Referral Form and Supplementary Referral Report to the WA EPA for the Sandy Ridge Project. In August 2015, the WA EPA set the level of assessment at a PER. The WA EPA issued the Final ESD for the Sandy Ridge Project in May 2016.

A draft PER was prepared for the Sandy Ridge Project. It addressed the key (and other) environmental factors associated with construction, operation, and closure and rehabilitation of the Sandy Ridge Project in accordance with the Final ESD.

The draft PER was available for public review from 12 December 2016 to 7 March 2017. On 18 April 2017, the WA EPA directed Tellus to prepare a Response to Submissions Report. The Response to Submissions Report was required for the purpose of responding to issues raised during the 12-week public review period of the draft PER. The Response to Submissions Report was formally received by the WA EPA on 21 August 2017. The draft PER and the Response to Submissions Report collectively form the PER for the Sandy Ridge Project.

On 8 December 2017, the WA EPA issued WA EPA Report 1611 – Sandy Ridge Project. The WA EPA supports the concept of Australia’s first dual open-cut kaolin mine and near-surface geological waste repository. The WA EPA considers that the project is environmentally acceptable subject to the conditions recommended in the EPA Report.

The next step is for the WA Minister for the Environment and the Australian Minister for the Environment to consider the WA EPA’s Assessment Report and to make their determinations regarding approval of the Sandy Ridge Project.

Community and Stakeholder Briefing Session

Tellus held a number of community and stakeholder information sessions to coincide with lodgment of the Sandy Ridge Facility PER. The aim of the sessions was to:
  • Describe the Sandy Ridge Project.
  • Outline the key (and other) environmental factors as required by the ESD.
  • Allow key stakeholders and community members the opportunity to ask questions.
Fact sheets and posters were presented at the community information sessions in November 2016. View Document »

Tellus representatives were available to answer questions during the community information sessions. The sessions were held in Coolgardie, Kalgoorlie, Southern Cross and Perth.

If approved, community and stakeholder engagement will continue during detailed design, construction, operation and closure and rehabilitation of the Sandy Ridge Project.
