Please find links to the following reports associated with the submission of the Chandler EIS. Environmental Impact Assessment

In 2013, Tellus lodged a Notice of Intent to the NT EPA. In April 2016, Tellus lodged a variation. Notice of Intent to the NT EPA. The EPA issued Final Terms of Reference in September 2016. View Document »

A draft Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) was prepared for the Chandler Project. It addressed the environmental, social and economic aspects associated with construction, operation, and closure and rehabilitation of the Chandler Project in accordance with the Terms of Reference. View draft EIS »

The draft EIS was on public exhibition from 18 February 2017 to 14 April 2017. The draft EIS was also circulated to the relevant government advisory bodies for review during this period.

On 8 May 2017, the NT EPA directed Tellus to prepare a Supplement Report to the draft EIS. The Supplement Report was required for the purpose of responding to issues raised during the eight-week public exhibition period of the draft EIS. The Supplement Report was formally submitted to the NT EPA on 24 July, 2017. The draft EIS and the Supplement Report collectively form the EIS for the Chandler Project.

On 30 November 2017, the NT EPA issued Assessment Report 83. The NT EPA supports the concept of Australia’s first dual underground rock salt mine and deep salt geological repository to manage hazardous waste.

The next step is for the NT Minister for the Environment and Natural Resources, the NT Minister for Primary Industry and Resources and the Australian Minister for the Environment to consider the NT EPA’s Assessment Report and to make their determinations regarding approval of the Chandler Project.

Community and Stakeholder Briefing Sessions

Tellus held a number of community and stakeholder information sessions to coincide with lodgment of the Chandler Facility EIS. The aim of the sessions was to:
  • Describe the Chandler Project.
  • Outline the matters of environmental, social and economic issues as requires by the Terms of Reference.
  • Allow key stakeholders and community members the opportunity to ask questions.
Fact sheets and posters were presented at the community information sessions in February/March 2017. View Document »

Tellus representatives were available to answer questions during these sessions. The sessions were held in Titjikala, Alice Springs and Darwin from February to March 2017.
