  • Tellus lodges Development Application for Darwin East Arm Storage and Transfer Facility

Tellus Holdings Ltd (“Tellus”) has lodged a Development Application for its Darwin East Arm Storage and Transfer Facility (“Facility”) with the Northern Territory Department of Lands, Planning and Environment.

The proposed Facility will be in the Darwin East Arm business park, close to the Marine Supply Base. Stage one will include a 4,950 square metre warehouse and a 8,000 square metre hardstand storage area.

The Facility is designed to provide storage for bulk industrial salts from the proposed Chandler salt mine prior to export, and as a storage and transfer facility for equipment and storage materials from the mining, oil and gas, manufacturing and agricultural sectors.

The proposed development reflects the objectives of the Government’s approach to developing this area as a logistics precinct to grow trade and providing services to the oil and gas, mining, manufacturing and agricultural industry.

As part of Tellus’ dual revenue business, a separate environmental approval and licence for the temporary storage of hazardous goods will be submitted by the end of 2015 under the Waste Management Pollution Control Act (WMPC Act) regulated by the Environment Protection Authority.

Subject to finance and approval times, construction is planned to commence next year with a target completion date late 2016. “Once constructed the Darwin East Arm facility will support the Tellus’ portfolio of strategic infrastructure developments,” said Tellus Managing Director, Duncan van der Merwe.
