Tellus has been issued by the Northern Territory Government’s Environmental Protection Authority (EPA) with final guidelines to prepare a draft Environmental Impact Statement (“EIS”) for the Chandler Project.
“This is another important milestone in the Chandler Project. The EIS will assess potential environmental and social impacts of the proposed Project and develop appropriate management strategies,” Tellus Managing Director Duncan van der Merwe said.

The EIS studies over the next 12 months will be managed by Coffey out of Darwin. The EIS team will be supported by international regulatory experts familiar with best practice regulatory regimes that apply to salt mines with complementary storage businesses.

The EIS will include extensive community consultation. The draft EIS will be lodged with the Northern Territory Government late next year. The community will also have a chance to comment once the draft EIS document is lodged, with a four-week public exhibition period.

“Community input will be essential at each project stage to understand the social, economic or environmental impacts and to identify appropriate ways of dealing with them,” Mr van der Merwe said.
